Fans have been hoping and praying for years that the long-awaited Bill & Ted 3 will get off the ground some day, with original Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure stars Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter set to return as the title characters. We’ve known for quite some time that the script by Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson has already been written, with Alex Winter teasing earlier this month that production may either begin at the end of 2016 or the beginning of 2017. Today we have a report from Metro.uk, with an unidentified source claiming that the story brings the Wyld Stallyns to London.
“The script is already written for the third film and much of it is set in the UK. The whole film is going to have a huge British feel. They’ll time-travel through London and meet historical figures, meaning the Queen and Winston Churchill could get cameos.”
Keanu Reeves teased back in 2014 the sequel will actually feature multiple versions of both Bill S. Preston Esquire and Ted Theodore Logan. The actor also revealed that someone from the future visits Bill and Ted, telling them if they don’t write the one song that will save the world by a certain date, the universe and history itself will unravel. It would make sense that Bill and Ted find themselves in London and various parts of the U.K. Their wives Elizabeth and Joanna are from Medieval England, and accroding to the end of Bogus Journey, both couples have stayed together and have children. In the original, Princess Elizabeth was played by Kimberley Kates while Princess Joanna was played by Diane Franklin. In the sequel, Annette Azcuy took over the Elziabeth role, while Sarah Trigger took over Joanna. There is no word if any of the four actresses will return for Bill & Ted 3.
Dean Parisot is directing Bill & Ted 3 from Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson’s script, although no further cast members have been locked in yet, aside from Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter. It’s also worth noting that Alex Winter did tease that other familiar characters from the first two movies may re-surface in the sequel. Unfortunately, one of those characters won’t be George Carlin, who played the beloved Rufus in the first two movies, and passed away in 2008.
Alex Winter said last year that Bill & Ted 3 will either happen “really soon or never,” but hopefully production will actually start at the end of this year. At this point, it may take a miracle of sorts to get this sequel rolling, but we’ll have to wait and see. Be sure to stay tuned for more updates on Bill & Ted 3 as soon as they come in.
