Daisy Ridley & J.J. Abrams Reunite for Fantasy Thriller 'Kolma'

While Daisy Ridley had recently teased a possible lead role in the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot, it sounds like she’s taking on a decidedly different project instead. Kolma will reteam the Force Awakens actress with her director J.J. Abrams, who will only be producing this time out. The movie is coming from Paramount Pictures.

Kolma is described as being in the same vein as Truly Madly Deeply by Deadline. The movie is based on an Israeli made-for-TV movie titled All I’ve Got. The story centers on a young woman who survives a car crash that kills her boyfriend. When she dies decades later, she is given two choices. She can return to the scene of that accident to live her life again. Or she can reunite with her lover.

Star Wars: Episode VIII producer Ram Bergman brought Kolma to Paramount Pictures over a decade ago. Sheryl Clark later got involved with the project as the head of Bad Robot’s movie division. Marielle Heller, who is known for her work on The Diary of a Teenage Girl is doing a rewrite of the existing script.

Daisy Ridley is next reprising her role as force sensitive desert scavenger Rey in Star Wars: Episode VIII. She joins Luke Skywalker on a new mission. At this time, no plot details have been released. Rian Johnson takes over directorial duties for J.J. Abrams, who has not announced his next project as a director.

It isn’t known when Kolma will begin shooting. Confirming that she was interested in taking on the role of Lara Croft, Daisy Ridley has made it known that there will be time in her schedule between shooting Episode VIII and Episode XI for her to take on another project. This latest story does not mention Tomb Raider, but it sounds like the actress may have passed on that reboot, committing herself to Kolma instead.
