“I was screaming for help but my nearest neighbor is about a quarter mile away and it was 10.30 pm, but my Kelsey came,” said Bob.
Kelsey, a Golden Retriever, kept Bob warm by lying on top of top of him, and kept him awake by licking his hands and face.
“She kept barking for help but never left my side. She kept me warm and alert. I knew I had to persevere through this and that it was my choice to stay alive.”
Bob’s neighbor eventually discovered him after hearing Kelsey’s howls and called 911. When Bob arrived to the hospital, his core temperature was below 69°F. Normal body temperature is 98.6°F and hypothermia occurs when your body temperature passes below 95°F.
