Han Solo Movie Auditions Took Place on the Millennium Falcon

Production on LucasFilm’s highly-anticipated Han Solo spin-off is scheduled to begin in January, with the studio setting a May 25, 2018 release date, which is also the 41st anniversary of the one that started it all, 1977’s Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. As of now, only two actors have been cast, Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, and Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, but both of these stars recently spoke about this project in separate interviews. First up, Alden Ehrenreich spoke about the audition process, revealing that his actual audition for the role took place on the Millennium Falcon.

Director J.J. Abrams built a Millennium Falcon on the set of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and it seems that same ship was used to conduct Alden Ehrenreich‘s audition. The actor spoke with Interview Magazine, where he talked about how long the audition process was. Here’s what he had to say below about auditioning for Han Solo: A Star Wars Story.

“I had an audition process that went on for a long time, and I got to spend a lot of time with the guys who are directing the film. Getting to be around them and being around the world a little bit has been the main experience so far. I did my audition on the Millennium Falcon for one of my screen tests, which was pretty cool. It was pretty fun, because I enjoyed the material a lot. Last year I read for the directors, then came to England and did a test on the Falcon, then came back and did a couple more screen tests in Los Angeles.”

The actor went on to add that he hasn’t met Harrison Ford quite yet, but he used to envision playing his characters when he was a child, adding that “the little kid in me is having a real joyride.” Meanwhile, Donald Glover recently appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres show, where he talked about how much the franchise means to him. Here’s what he had to say below, adding that his mom had some advice for him after he told his parents about landing this coveted role.

“It’s really crazy. I’m honored, and it’s a very big deal. There’s this thing going around on the Internet of me in a Star Wars t-shirt when I was in high school, so it’s been a long thing. That was the first toy I had, Lando. I remember it like it was yesterday. My dad gave it to me, and I had a Darth Vader one too. I told my dad (about landing the role) immediately and he’s like ‘Aww,’ and my mom is in the back saying, ‘Don’t mess it up! Don’t mess this up!’ Cause Billy Dee – like, that’s hers.”

Ellen DeGeneres added that it was not “crazy” that he landed the role, because he put himself out for it, and it happened. The circumstances are similar to how he started his campaign to play Miles Morales, that resulted in voicing that very same character in the Ultimate Spider-Man animated series. Take a look at Donald Glover’s video below from The Ellen DeGeneres Show as we wait for more details on Han Solo: A Star Wars Story.
