Jackie Trailer: Natalie Portman Is First Lady Jackie Kennedy

Fox Searchlight has unveiled the first trailer for it’s upcoming biopic, Jackie, which follows the story of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy, wife and First Lady to President John F. Kennedy. Chilean director Pablo Larraín directs the movie that is sure to bait some Oscar nods nods this Fall.

Jackie is a searing and intimate portrait of one of the most important and tragic moments in American history, seen through the eyes of the iconic First Lady, then Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy (Natalie Portman). Jackie places us in her world during the days immediately following her husband’s assassination. Known for her extraordinary dignity and poise, here we see a psychological portrait of the First Lady as she struggles to maintain her husband’s legacy and the world of “Camelot” that they created and loved so well.

“The set was really playful and improvisatory, and I think the film allows us to see many different sides of her,” Natalie Portman told EW. “[We see] the toughness of who she was, dealing with what she had to go through while keeping herself together for the sake of the country and her family, and also the vulnerability and the intelligence of how she really crafted [JFK’s] legacy.”

Originally attached to director Darren Aronofsky and actress Rachel Weisz as a re-pairing of the duo that created The Fountain, the project moved into the hands of actress Natalie Portman and director Pablo Larraín, who made a huge impact at the festival circuit this year with his first English-language movie, Jackie. The film also stars Greta Gerwig as Nancy Tuckerman, Peter Sarsgaard as Bobby Kennedy, Max Casella as Jack Valenti, John Carroll Lynch as Lyndon B. Johnson, Billy Crudup as an American journalist, and John Hurt as a priest. Written by Noah Oppenheim, the movie received glowing reviews during the 2016 Venice Film Festival where it first premiered.
