Jeff Goldblum Hints at Superhero Movie Role, Is He Team Marvel or DC?

As the Marvel Cinematic Universe enters Phase Three with Captain America: Civil War, and the DC Extended Universe kicks off in earnest with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the cinematic landscape will be filled to the brim with superhero movies over the next few years. Both Marvel and DC’s superhero universes are getting bigger and bigger. That only means there will be more opportunities for a various number of roles in these highly-anticipated projects. Over the past few years, we’ve seen esteemed actors such as Michael Douglas, Robert Redford, Ben Affleck and Jeremy Irons step into the superhero space, but now it seems that another beloved actor is eyeing the genre, Jeff Goldblum.

Jeff Goldblum is certainly no stranger to sci-fi fare, with acclaimed performances in The Fly, Jurassic Park and Independence Day, but he has never previously tackled the superhero genre. As it turns out, that may come to an end, with the actor teasing in an MTV interview at CinemaCon, that he may be in discussions for an unspecified superhero movie. Here’s what he had to say, when asked if he’s had discussions with either Marvel or DC.

“I can say very little right now. But you might be onto something.”

When pressed for any further details, such as whether he prefers Marvel or DC movies, the actor wouldn’t offer any specifics, and he didn’t seem to favor either side over the other. Unfortunately, his vague statement doesn’t help narrow down the choices of what superhero adventure he may be in talks for, so until we get any confirmation from Marvel or DC camps, we’ll have to continue playing the guessing game. Still, the prospect of Jeff Goldblum appearing in a superhero movie is certainly exciting.

The actor will next be seen in Independence Day: Resurgence, which hits theaters on June 24, and he is also attached for an unspecified voice role in director Wes Anderson’s untitled project, along with a role in The Modern Ocean. Beyond that, the actor’s schedule appears to be wide open, and with both Marvel and DC developing projects slated to debut between now and 2020, the possibilities are nearly endless as to what movie he may be eyeing. Of course, the actor could have also simply been playing along with the interviewer, but we don’t know for sure.

On the Marvel side, the next movie that will go into production is Thor: Ragnarok, which is scheduled to start shooting this summer in Australia, which will be followed by the two-part adventure Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Avengers: Infinity War Part 2, which starts a nine-month back-to-back shoot at the end of this year. As for DC, production recently started on Justice League: Part 1, with The Flash and Aquaman movies slated for release in 2018, although we don’t know when shooting may begin on those movies. We’ll keep you posted on Jeff Goldblum’s potential superhero movie appearance as soon as we have more details.
