With two of this year’s biggest superhero adventures already in theaters, Warner Bros. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War, some fans are already looking forward to the release of another long-awaited movie, Suicide Squad. The first two trailers for this massive ensemble have been well-received by fans and critics alike, but we don’t know for sure when the next footage will drop. Until then, a new photo has surfaced which gives us a closer look at The Joker (Jared Leto) and Harley Quinn’s (Margot Robbie) questionable relationship.
It’s been quite clear from the start of production that The Joker and Harley Quinn have quite a rocky friendship, with photos and videos from the Toronto set showing The Joker hitting Harley during a confrontation in the middle of a street. Still, she was often seen riding in The Joker’s souped-up sports car, but there is very little we know about their relationship quite yet. This latest photo, which was spotted in Rolling Stone magazine by several Twitter users, shows The Joker getting serious with Harley, pointing a stern finger at her as she leans back. Interestingly enough, The Joker appears to be wearing either a formal suit or a tuxedo, while Harley is seen wearing her iconic Daddy’s Little Monster t-shirt. Clearly these two aren’t heading out for a night at the theater, but we can’t be sure what exactly is happening in this scene. Here’s teh official synopsis for the movie from Warner Bros.
“It feels good to be bad… Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?”
The all-star ensemble cast for Suicide Squad includes Will Smith (Deadshot), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jared Leto (The Joker), Jai Courtney (Boomerang), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flagg), Cara Delevingne (Enchantress), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Karen Fukuhara (Katana) Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Killer Croc), Adam Beach (Slipknot) and Jay Hernandez (El Diablo). Created by Robert Kanigher and Ross Andru for DC Comics in 1959, the Suicide Squad follows a group of super villains tasked by the U.S. Government to pull off a secret mission. The catch is that it will be nearly impossible, and most of them, if not all, will return in body bags. If they make it out alive, they will be rewarded for their freedom.
David Ayer directs Suicide Squad from his own script, with this superhero adventure going up against The Weinstein Company’s The Founder and EuropaCorp’s Nine Lives. Jared Leto’s exploits before, during and after production on Suicide Squad have become the stuff of legend. We recently reported that he met with actual psychopaths and murderers, along with the doctors and psychiatrists who dealt with them, in preparation for this iconic role. While filming was under way in Toronto, he would reportedly never break character, and he even sent a number of bizarre gifts to his co-stars before production started last year. While we wait for more details about The Joker and Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad, take a look at this new photo below.
