Patriots Day Trailer #2: Mark Wahlberg Searches for Boston Marathon Bombers

An account of the Boston Marathon bombing, Patriots Day is the powerful story of a community’s courage in the face of adversity. Patriots Day will open in Boston, New York, and Los Angeles on December 21, 2016. The film will open nationwide on January 13, 2017. Today, we have the second trailer, which gives us a look at this harrowing true-life drama.

In the aftermath of an unspeakable attack, Police Sergeant Tommy Saunders (Mark Wahlberg) joins courageous survivors, first responders and investigators in a race against the clock to hunt down the bombers before they strike again. Weaving together the stories of Special Agent Richard DesLauriers (Kevin Bacon), Police Commissioner Ed Davis (John Goodman), Sergeant Jeffrey Pugliese (J.K. Simmons) and nurse Carol Saunders (Michelle Monaghan) this visceral and unflinching chronicle captures the suspense of one of the most sophisticated manhunts in law enforcement history and celebrates the strength of the people of Boston.

Some events test our courage. Some people inspire our strength. And some moments define our spirit. Peter Berg directs Patriots Day. He is working from a screenplay he co-wrote alongside Matt Cook and Joshua Zetumer. The trio’s screenplay is based on a story by Peter Perg, Matt Cook, Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson. The movie is produced by Scott Stuber, Mark Wahlberg, Hutch Parker, Dylan Clark, Stephen Levinson, Dorothy Aufiero and Michael Radutzky. As recently reported, Academy & Grammy Award-winners Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (The Social Network, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Gone Girl) will compose the score for the film.

The Patriots Day Charity Challenge is a fundraising competition to support the survivors of the Boston Marathon. CBS Films and Lionsgate (NYSE: LGF) announced the Patriots Day Charity Challenge earlier in the year, a nonprofit initiative that will empower people across the country to honor select first responders, medical professionals and survivors of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing.

Charities throughout the greater Boston area are invited to visit the campaign’s CrowdRise page PatriotsDayApplication for the details and to sign up. The Patriots Day Charity Challenge kicks off with a $100,000.00 main prize challenge as well as surprise bonus challenges and will run through the film’s opening weekend. The cast, filmmakers and studios behind the film Patriots Day will be supporting this effort with both financial contributions and special prizing. Said co-writer and director, Peter Berg.

“The courage and stories of the survivors, first responders and other organizations who stepped up that morning and every day since are the inspiration for this film. We are proud to be part of an effort to help give back to these heroes and celebrate the spirit of community that defined Boston’s response to this tragic event.”

Take a look at the all-new trailer featuring a cast lead by Mark Wahlberg and also starring John Goodman, Michelle Monaghan, Kevin Bacon, J.K. Simmons and Melissa Benoist. We also have a few new select images of the cast in action. Will Patriots Day be the movie to beat at the Oscars this year?
